Another Giant Bird
Mom spotted this huge bird while we were at the lake. We don't really know what kind of a bird it is. We do know it is not one of those ugly buzzards. He was so beautiful. Mom was able to get pretty close before he flew off. Of course Dad was holding Louie and I back so we wouldn't scare it....

Hi Gus and Louie, I just got your message-how cool that your dad found a place an hour away!!! I can't wait to hear all about it!! As for the "down" on the run-well yes eventually it's a good thing to know. I sometimes get so excited that I don't initially sit when mom says it-because the sheep are right in front of me!!! Mom's trainer says cattle dogs are harder to train on sheep-we aren't border collies! So it sometimes takes a little longer to get us ACD's on the way of the sheep! But it comes! I still want to get right in there on my outruns when mom is the furthest away from me...it's just the cattle dog in me! We're meant to be on cattle!! But they are hard to find here in California!! So I herd what I can!
It might be harder for Louie since he's deaf-does he know hand signals? Mom has taught me a few hand signals-they might work with Louie. I think first they'll give you an instinct test to see if you like to chase sheep-then you slowly work from that point! It's fun. Mom said if you have any questions email her at pennysprague at gmail dot com
Isn't that a heron?

We were going to guess a heron too! He's very beautiful!
Love ya lots,

That is an interesting looking bird. I wish I could be there to chase it.

that bird looks tasty
I think it's a heron, too. And a really beautiful one at that. You showed remarkable self control, Gus. Good work!
PS- I think this makes you a certified caninaturalist now, too!!
It does look like a heron, doesn't it? A really beautiful bird. You have a lot of self control Gus and Louie! If it was me, there's only going to be telling the story with nothing to show.
Ooooh, he looks delicious. Would you like some recipes?
